Insufficient Direction
She draws manga for a living. He directs anime. Sounds like a match made in heaven, right? Then you find out who he actually is: Hideaki Anno, one of the four so-called otaku kings, a man whose head spends most of its time somewhere far away from planet Earth. Moyoco Anno, the manga artist, signed up for marriage. What she got was a daily fight against her husband's complete and total weirdness. She turns their life together into short, sometimes grotesque, sometimes hallucinatory sketches, stuffed with references to old anime only a true fan would catch. One day she's dodging whatever new obsession has taken over the apartment, the next she's trying to have a normal conversation with a man who lives inside his own fantasy. How much of this is made up and how much really happened? Nobody knows. And honestly, would you want to find out?
