A hundred and seven years ago the Moon blew apart, and its rubble still circles the planet. Nobody on the ground looks up much anymore. Then Haruka Amami, chatty and a little unsure of herself, nails an audition and rides into Tokyo expecting bright lights, a stage, maybe a microphone. Instead she walks into a secret school run by the Mondenkind Agency. The other girls living there? Candidates. For giant robots built to shoot down the falling rock. So much for show business. The agency behind it all is not staffed by heroes, not even close. And Haruka has a stranger problem: the machine she gets paired with, Imber, does not feel like a machine. Something inside it stirs when she's near. Fear, maybe. Or recognition. Now she has to climb into a cockpit she never trained for, take orders from people she doesn't trust, and figure out what is actually sitting in that hangar with her. What exactly is Imber, and why does it seem to know her?
