Subaru Ichinose is back in the cockpit of the Durandal, still fighting for a little breathing room of his own. Then a dogfight at the edge of Earth's atmosphere throws him and his brother Isuzu against the dirtiest opponent yet: gravity itself. Thanks to luck and thick armor, both survive, though Subaru barely holds it together, panicking outside the cockpit, in fresh air, under a setting sun. The Earth Union navy fishes them out and drops them at general headquarters, where their father is waiting. And he has a gift: the Neo-Durandal, a next-generation machine to go with Subaru's new all-universe senses. Sounds like the war is about to turn. Except his evil clone Subaru B is growing in perfect mirror step, ready to snap and wipe him out at any second. So what could possibly matter more than that?
