Subaru Ichinose has one true love, and it's his cockpit. Curled up in that seat, sealed off from everyone, he finally feels something close to peace. Which is a problem, because he's the ace pilot of the Tiramisu, the Earth Union's shiniest battleship, and the universe keeps demanding he actually talk to people. Here's the twist: the threats aren't always enemy fleets. Sometimes it's a rogue fried pork skewer. Sometimes it's a shirt that keeps choking him backwards. His mecha Durandal is the only place he can breathe, and everyone from command to his own crew seems determined to redecorate it out from under him. Meanwhile the colonies out past the stars are getting hungry, and Earth's grip on its own territory is slipping. So the guy who just wants to be left alone in his little pod has to keep climbing in and fighting for it. Will Subaru ever figure out how to hold a normal conversation, or is the cockpit the only home he's ever going to get?
