Three art college students share a cramped Tokyo apartment. Yuta is the quiet sophomore who never thinks past tomorrow. Shinobu, the older guy who keeps skipping class and failing to graduate, is a genius and a menace. Takumi, the sensible one, looks after them both, though his own life is a mess he hides well. Cheap rent, instant noodles, nothing much happens. Then spring shows up. A professor's relative moves to town: Hagumi, tiny, shy, and shockingly good with a paintbrush. She enrolls at their college. Yuta falls for her the second he sees her. Shinobu falls too, but he chases her so hard and so strangely that it scares her. Meanwhile Ayumi, the pottery girl everyone calls the Iron Lady, is friends with all of them and quietly in love with Takumi, who only sees a buddy when he looks at her. He's stuck on Rika, an older woman, a widow, someone he can never really have. Nobody says the right thing. Everyone keeps showing up anyway. Then graduation creeps closer, jobs need finding, and the whole easy arrangement starts to crack. Yuta still hasn't told Hagumi how he feels. Ayumi keeps pouring drinks at her family's sake shop and saying nothing. So what happens when the safest friendship you have is the one thing standing between you and the person you actually want?
