A new school year starts, and the Genshiken club needs fresh blood. Recruiting is always a pain, and this time it looks hopeless. Then the Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture pulls off a miracle: the manga club hands over Chika Ogiue. She walks in, looks them over, and says it flat out. I'm Ogiue and I hate otaku. So now the club has a new member who can't stand the people she just joined, and everyone can feel the year getting weird already. Ogiue isn't shy about it either. She draws, she snaps at the guys, and she clearly wants nothing to do with any of this. The others, of course, treat her like the best thing that has happened to them in months. What does a club full of proud otaku do with a girl who says she despises them? And how long can Ogiue keep that up before something gives?
