Yumeji Fujiwara has a party trick: he can read the aura around a person and know what they will dream about tonight. Ten years of this, and it still makes his classmates laugh. The only dream he can never pin down is his own, the same bad one, night after night. Then the nightmare shows up at noon. He is wide awake, walking home, and the dream is suddenly right there with him. That is no coincidence. A demon from the dream world wants his body as a door into reality, and it nearly gets it. What saves him is a girl falling out of the sky: Merry Nightmare, a dream demon with no host, no way home, and a grudge against the things now crawling into the waking world. She needs a way back. He needs to stop being a doorway. Dream demons keep coming, and every one of them drags somebody's worst night along with it. So they fight, a boy who sees dreams and a girl who is one, and the cats following Yumeji for a decade start to look less like bad luck and more like a plan. Whose dream is really bleeding into the streets, and who is going to wake up first?
