A duel goes wrong, and Kurumi Tokisaki wakes up somewhere that is not her world at all. Before any of that, though, there is a white cat. She wants it. The cat wants nothing to do with her, and just like that, it slips away. Small loss. Then she runs into Hibiki Higoromo, a white haired girl who calls herself a quasi-spirit and starts explaining things Kurumi never asked about. This place is the Neighboring World, where spirits wait before they ever reach the real one. And it runs on a killing game. Quasi-spirits hunt each other down, and the last one standing gets a single wish granted. No exceptions, no mercy. Kurumi takes in the rules, looks at Hibiki, and offers a deal: they watch each other's backs, for now. Two strangers, one wish between them, and every other fighter in the game wants them dead. The alliance holds as long as it is useful, and both of them know it. So what happens when the field empties and only the two of them are left?
