Six months have passed since Keisei died, cut down by the Seven Stars, a crew of elite corpses who want more out of death than unfinished business. Ouri doesn't get time to grieve. He signs a temporary contract with Makina, the undead girl Keisei left behind, and it's the only thing keeping her from rotting into a monster. So he trains. Long days of it, learning to be a real monk, because a half-baked one can't hold a contract like this. Here's the problem: the Seven Stars already butchered Makina once, wiped out her whole family, and now they've taken Keisei too. She wants them gone. Ouri wants to help her do it. But the monk Akasha, the one who was supposed to stand with them, has flipped to the other side, and he isn't just hunting the corpse-hime. He's coming for the entire Kougon Sect, every monk who ever put a leash on a dead girl. Ouri keeps training, keeps holding on, keeps telling himself this arrangement is temporary. But a contract with the dead has to end somehow. Question is, when it does, which one of them is still going to be breathing?
