Renzaburo Taki looks like any other guy in a suit, riding the train to work. He isn't. He belongs to the Black Guards, a secret outfit that keeps the peace between our world and the Black World, a parallel dimension full of demons. Every few centuries the truce between the two sides has to be renewed, and that fragile harmony is about to be tested again. The talks are coming up, and Taki gets handed a job: babysit Giuseppe Mayart, a human mystic who matters more than he looks. Backup arrives in the form of Makie, a demon woman with her own reasons for being there. Sounds simple. It isn't. A radical demon faction wants the treaty dead and will blow up anything to stop it, and Giuseppe, bless him, would rather chase women than sit still for five minutes. So Taki has to keep a horny old mystic alive, work alongside a partner he isn't sure he can trust, and stop a war between two worlds before it starts. Who exactly is pulling the strings behind the terrorists, and what happens if the treaty never gets signed?
