Chobits
Hideki scrapes together every yen for cram school, and what he really wants is a Persocom, a machine that looks exactly like a person. He can barely cover rent. Then one night, walking past a pile of trash, he spots a girl with long hair lying there, switched off and thrown away. He carries her home and gets her running. She opens her eyes, greets him like he saved her life, and says one word: Chii. That's all she can say. She can't download anything into her own memory, so Hideki does the only thing he can think of: he teaches her the world by hand, one object and one word at a time, while cramming for entrance exams and trying not to think about what his neighbor's diagnostic tool failed to find. Whispers start pointing at the Chobits, a rumor about special units built with real feelings and a will of their own. His friends dig into where she came from. Hideki just wants to know who left her in the garbage, and whether a machine that learns to love the man who found her can ever mean it. If she isn't broken, what was she made for?
