A high schooler in Sendai, splitting his days between basketball practice and a part time job, hears a jazz concert by accident and walks out a different person. Something clicks. Dai Miyamoto buys a saxophone and swears he will become the best jazz player in the world. Rain or shine, day or night, he practices until his lips give out. Three years later he moves to Tokyo with nothing but that promise. In a tiny club he runs into Yukinori Sawabe, a pianist with classical training and a serious face, and Dai is sure he has just met the partner he needs. Yukinori listens to this loud kid with almost no experience and says no. Then Dai plays, and the refusal dies in his throat. They pull in Shunji Tamada, who can barely hold his own on drums, and JASS is born. A trio nobody asked for, playing a sound the stagnant local scene has no idea what to do with. Can three people this stubborn really break jazz open again?
