Yukio Tanaka, Koyuki to his friends, has a voice but no stage for it. School, home, repeat. Then he pulls a weird-looking dog away from some kids who were roughing it up, and the dog's owner turns out to be Ryuusuke, a sixteen-year-old guitarist who already blew up once with a popular band and walked away. Ryuusuke plugs in and plays, and something clicks in Koyuki's head that never clicked before. He gets a guitar. He starts practicing until his fingers hurt, hanging around Ryuusuke's old rehearsal spot, meeting the guys, meeting Ryuusuke's sister Maho, who is his age, sharp, and the first person to actually hear what he can do. The band comes together almost by accident and takes the dog's name: Beck. Now comes the hard part. Small gigs, no money, a scene that doesn't care yet, and a voice nobody outside their circle has heard. Koyuki is fourteen. Ryuusuke has already tasted the top and lost it. Can they drag a rock band out of a practice room and across Japan, or does wanting it badly enough not actually matter?
