A pastry chef dies young, his dream of making the world's greatest sweet still just a dream. Then he opens his eyes again as nine-year-old Pastry Mille Morteln, in a land of swords and sorcery where sugar costs more than gold. He settles into a quiet life in the Fief of Morteln, under his father Lord Casserole, a famous military man. The boy has flour in his veins and magic in his blood, but the pantry is close to empty. Candy here is a treasure, not a snack. Bandits, however, do not care about dessert. Word comes that they are heading straight for the fief, and Pas has to pick up a spellbook, fight for the land, and keep everyone alive. Can a kid with a sweet tooth survive a war long enough to build the confectionery paradise he keeps dreaming about?
