Mars got a new name and a new face. They call it Aqua now, and the canals of Neo Venezia run exactly the way they did back on old Earth, down to the last stone bridge. Gondolas carry everyone around. No cars, no rush. Akari came here from Manhome with big plans and zero experience. She works at a small tour company called Aria, learning the ropes as a trainee gondolier, which this city calls an Undine. Steering a boat through narrow waterways is harder than it looks. So is finding your way when every alley seems to lead somewhere new. Between lessons she meets other Undines, tourists who ask too many questions, and locals who have lived on these canals their whole lives. Everyone she rows past has something to teach her, though it never feels like a lecture. The thing is, Akari keeps noticing small wonders that nobody else bothers to stop for. What exactly is she starting to see that the rest of the city has gotten used to missing?
