The world outside is still burning. Endless war, dust, survival. Then there is Olympus, a city that somehow made peace work. Most of the people walking its clean streets are Bioroids, engineered humans who keep everyone calm, keep the aggression in check. They cannot reproduce on their own. They do not fly off the handle. That is the whole point. Deunan Knute has spent her life in the wastelands with a gun in her hands. So when a woman named Hitomi shows up and offers her a spot in Olympus security, Deunan does not buy the quiet. A place this perfect has to be hiding something. She is right. Someone inside the city is moving to tear the whole thing down, and the target is the Bioroids themselves. Deunan carries something in her blood that neither side fully understands yet. What happens to Olympus when the one person who never learned to keep the peace is the only one who can save it?
