Nineteen months of quiet. Nineteen months of pretending the war was over. Then the Vers princess goes on live broadcast and calls the people of Earth a selfish race that devours resources and thinks only of pleasure. She tells her knights to take up arms and defend the red planet. Just like that, the fighting starts again, on the ground and up in orbit. Slaine Troyard has done well for himself on the Martian side. The former Earth boy earned a knight's title, the respect that comes with it, and no longer has to flinch at a nobleman's cane. Meanwhile nobody knows what happened to Princess Asseylum or to Inaho Kaizuka. Count Saazbaum survived the assault on his castle and learned nothing from it. He lost a battle, he says, not the war, and he keeps scheming against Earth. Only now the empire has run out of tricks and played a card it kept hidden up its sleeve: a princess of the same suit as the missing one, one who claims she wants peace.
