A Silent Voice

Shouya is bored in elementary school, and boredom makes kids mean. So when a deaf girl named Shouko joins his class, he and everyone else pick her apart for fun. Then her mother calls the school. Suddenly the whole thing lands on Shouya alone, and the friends who laughed along turn on him. He spends the rest of elementary and middle school shunned, with teachers pretending not to notice. Years later he is a high schooler, and the guilt has never let go. He hates what he did, feels it in every room he walks into. So he decides to find Shouko and face her. What do you say to someone whose life you made miserable, when she cannot even hear your voice?
