Seven years ago Kakeru watched his sister die, and that was the last of his family. These days he's just a normal high school kid hanging out with Yuka, his best friend. Then the sky turns red, the moon goes black, and every single person around them vanishes. Monsters come pouring out of the streets. Just as the two of them are about to be torn apart, everything snaps back to normal like nothing happened. Except it happens again the next night. This time a sword-wielding senior named Misuzu cuts them free, and the three of them start piecing it together. Other students are getting dragged into this too: a silent girl named Kukuri who looks disturbingly like Kakeru's dead sister, a cheerful classmate whose whole personality flips the second she takes off her glasses, and a young pyrokinetic who fights with fire. Somewhere in the middle of it all sits a girl trapped inside a crystal, and she seems to be the one pulling the strings. Kakeru barely survives these nights as it is, so if he wants to keep Yuka alive he has to get stronger fast and trust people he hardly knows. But why does Kukuri have his sister's face, and what does the crystal girl actually want with all of them?
