Natsuko Hirose became a director right out of high school, and her first show about magical girls was such a hit that everyone is waiting for her next masterpiece. There is just one problem. She has never been in love, and the new film is supposed to be a romance. So she sits there, stuck, while the producer and the whole studio watch the deadline crawl closer. Then she eats some expired food without looking, collapses on the floor, and wakes up somewhere else entirely, with a monster called a Void already chasing her down. Four soldiers called the Nine Soldiers show up and cut the thing apart just before it gets her. That is when it hits her: this is A Tale of Perishing, the movie she loved as a kid, the one that flopped at the box office and that she knows frame by frame. She knows which characters die and when the Voids come. And when she grabs her animation peg bar, whatever she draws jumps off the page and becomes real. So now she is fighting alongside Luke and the others, rewriting scenes she has watched a hundred times, trying to keep everyone alive. But every change she makes pushes the story somewhere new, and the movie she remembers is running out of pages. Can Natsuko really save a world that was written to end badly?
