Hua Jiu is nineteen, fights like a street brawler, and cleanses spirits for a living. She never asked for a partner. Then she corners a nasty one called the Seventh Lord and, instead of sending him off, ropes him into service. He is not happy about it. He makes that very clear, constantly, with a mouth that never stops running. So now they wander from one haunting to the next, bickering the whole way. She swings first and thinks later. He complains, insults her taste in everything, and somehow still saves her skin when a spirit turns out bigger than expected. It would almost be funny if someone weren't quietly sharpening a knife in the background. Because an old enemy of Hua Jiu has been waiting. Not for a fair fight. For something slower and far crueler, aimed at everything she cares about, and it is already in motion while she is busy arguing with a ghost. Can a girl who trusts nobody and a spirit who answers to no one figure out who is hunting them before the trap snaps shut?
