Four travelers cross the wasted plains of Filgaea: a gunslinger named Sheyenne whose legendary ARMs are the only thing standing between him and a shallow grave, a scientist who looks like he wandered out of a sword fight, a card-flinging sorceress called Roleta, and Mirabelle, one of the vampiric Noble Red. They also drag along Isaac and Jerusha, two fuzzy know-it-alls from the Popepi Pipepo tribe who never shut up. Then there's the twist no one sees coming: the man with the biggest gun in the party isn't the one with the strangest secret. Sheyenne wakes up one day small, furry, and thoroughly not himself, and the quest for glory turns into a race to undo whatever cursed him before it sticks. The road doesn't get easier. Bandits, monsters, and the ruins of a dying world keep throwing themselves at the group, and Mirabelle's bloodline gives her powers nobody fully trusts. Every town they pass through has its own trouble, and every fight costs them something. Can four misfits and two loud rodents really carve out a legend in a land this empty, or is the desert just waiting to swallow them whole?
