Two priests fly around the world for the Vatican, and their job is simple to describe: prove a miracle is real or prove it is fake. Roberto Nicholas knows old texts and codes. Josef Kou Hiraga runs the numbers. A weeping statue, a stigmatic who bleeds on schedule, a shrine where the sick walk again. The pair show up, poke around, and write it all down. Then the blood shows up somewhere it should not be. What started as a quiet inspection turns into a murder scene, or a circle of devil worshippers, or a conspiracy with a cardinal's seal on it. The miracle is the least of it. Somebody out there is staging the sacred, and they are very good at it. Hiraga trusts math. Roberto trusts the archive. Both of them trust each other more than they probably should. Every case pulls them deeper into something that does not want to be found, and the harder they dig, the more it costs them. So what happens when the two men who verify miracles for a living finally meet one that is genuine, and it wants them dead?
