A rocket falls out of the sky and hits Asumi's mother. That is where the story starts, back when Asumi is still a baby, and her mother spends five years in a coma before she dies. Asumi never really got to know her. She is a small girl standing at a grave, trying to grieve for someone she cannot even picture. Then a figure in a lion mask shows up and says he is a ghost. Lion-san, she calls him. He stays with her while she buries the ashes, and somewhere in that strange, quiet time she makes up her mind: she will become a rocket pilot. The same machines that took her mother are the ones she now wants to fly. That choice puts her on a road that will not be easy. Space programs do not hand out seats to kids with a story like hers, and the people around her will have plenty of reasons to say no. What does a girl do when the thing that broke her life is the only thing she wants to reach for?
