Two and a half years have passed since the Lost JuLai burned. Meryl Stryfe still crosses the endless sands of Noman's Land with her young assistant Milly Thompson at her side, hunting the man who turned a whole city into a grave. Ninety percent of JuLai's people died that day. The bounty on Vash the Stampede now sits at sixty billion double dollars, the biggest the planet has ever posted. But bounty hunters and grieving marshals are not the only ones closing in. In a forgotten little town, a man wrapped head to toe in armor hauls a listless Vash out of the dirt and nurses him back from nothing. Hoppered the Gauntlet wants no part of the world outside his door, and for a while the world leaves him alone. Then a girl named Jessica shows up begging for help, and whatever quiet Hoppered built starts to come apart. Meryl keeps chasing the Humanoid Typhoon across the desert, Hoppered keeps a broken man hidden behind steel, and Jessica keeps asking for something none of them can afford to give. How long can any of them keep running from what Vash already did?
