Taishi Fura used to swing a bat. Now he swings his fists in back alleys, a delinquent with nothing better to do. Then one night he sees something he shouldn't: a ghoul called Lantern tearing into two of his old friends. Blood on the pavement. One dead, one barely breathing. Before the monster can finish the job, Fura's classmate Kishou Arima walks in and forces it to run. That quiet kid from school? He's an undercover investigator for the CCG. Fura wants payback. Not justice, not some grand cause. Revenge. So he teams up with Arima to hunt ghouls through the 13th Ward, night after night, working their way toward Lantern. A girl named Uruka Minami joins them too. Three teenagers with fake smiles by day and blood on their hands after dark. This is twelve years before the events of Tokyo Ghoul, back when the CCG's dreaded Reaper was still just a high schooler. Arima and Fura look like opposites in every way. So why do they end up hunting side by side, and what will it cost Fura to keep up with a partner who was never really just a classmate?
