The Devil Ring
Zhou Xiaoan needed cash fast. His father vanished into the mountains five years ago on some excavation and never came back, leaving him to scrape together money for his sick mother's care. So when a sketchy gig came along, testing a ring covered in ancient Shang dynasty carvings, he put it on without asking too many questions. Big mistake. Something tore its way out of his mouth. A devil, and not just any devil: it claims to be Dixin, the last king of Shang, overthrown and now desperate to get himself a human body. Which is apparently Zhou's problem now. As if that was not enough, there are zombies walking around eating human hearts, a race of them, ancient and hungry, plus Taoist priests who hunt them and seem to have their own agenda, and gods who hide in plain sight among regular people. Every answer Zhou digs up about the ring drags him closer to the question he has been avoiding for five years. What exactly was his father digging for up in those mountains?
