A Western-style house gets lifted out of Romania and planted whole in Tokyo, furniture, coffins and all. Inside it: Earl Dracula, his daughter Chocola, and Igor, the servant who does the carrying. Chocola goes off to junior high like any other kid. Dad stays home and broods about dinner, which for a vampire of his standing has to be the blood of a beautiful virgin. Then he steps outside. Japan does not believe in vampires, so nobody screams, nobody flees. Instead every night on the prowl turns into a mess: neighbors rattled, police confused, the whole street turned upside down, and the Earl right in the middle of it, looking like an idiot. He wanted a quiet meal. He gets a neighborhood that treats him as a weirdo in a cape. So how does a proud count hunt when the city refuses to be afraid of him?
