Araragi finally left for university, and the town did not get the memo. Yotsugi Ononoki, a living doll who used to be a corpse, moves into his house to watch over his sister Tsukihi, and she inherits his old job too: the guy everyone calls when something weird shows up at their door. Meanwhile Nadeko Sengoku, a middle schooler still shaky after her own run ins with the paranormal, barely leaves her room. She wants to draw manga for a living, so Yotsugi offers a shortcut and talks her into making four copies of herself, one for each piece of her personality. Bad idea. The copies want nothing to do with helping her. They scatter into town and start wrecking things, and now Nadeko has to chase down her own face, her own voice, her own worst habits walking around on separate legs. And Araragi is not even around to fix it. He is busy with something worse: girls from his old high school keep vanishing, and every one they find has been dried out like a mummy. No witnesses, no clues, just a trail of bodies and a kidnapper who leaves nothing behind. So who is taking them, and what happens when the copies decide they like being free?
