One second Shurato is sixteen, sweating through the final match of a martial arts tournament. The next, a ball of light swallows him and his friend Gai whole. They wake up somewhere else. No machines, no cities. Just a strange heavenly world where people fight with spiritual energy instead of fists. Then comes the part that makes no sense. Shurato isn't a visitor here. He's the reborn king of this place, pulled back to fight a war against evil gods. He wants nothing to do with any of it. But a crime he never committed gets pinned on him, hunters come after him, and Gai, his best friend since forever, turns on him. Not just turns. Gai wants him dead. Now Shurato is running through an unfamiliar world, hunted for something he didn't do, while the one person he trusted is trying to kill him. Why did the light bring them both here, and what happened to Gai inside it?
