Takumi's days all look the same. School at Umenomori Academy, where Chise drags him into whatever strange hobby she's obsessed with this week. Fumino walks beside him and says the exact opposite of whatever she actually means. Then it's off to Stray Cats, the cake shop his adoptive sister Otome runs, until bedtime. Quiet, predictable, fine. Then Otome leaves to help somebody and comes back with a girl. Nozomi Kiriya has hair and habits that make her look like a big cat, and she's on the run from something she won't talk about. Otome, being Otome, doesn't ask many questions. She just gives the girl a place to stay. Fumino snaps at Takumi about it, which of course means she's worried. Chise wants to know everything. The shop, already loud, gets louder. Nozomi is sharp and pretty and knows absolutely nothing about ordinary life, which only makes Takumi wonder more. Who is she really? And what exactly is she running from?
