Aya lives alone in a small apartment, far from the house where she grew up. Her mother has been working overseas since Aya was a kid, so it is just her aging father Kouji and the family cat, Mii-san, rattling around that old place now. One evening, wiped out from work, Aya lets her dad's dinner invitation ring out. She tells him she is still at the office. A lie, and a small one, the kind you barely notice making. Then the phone rings again that same night. Whatever is on the other end of that call, it lands like a stone in still water. Suddenly the distance she has been keeping from her father, all those skipped dinners and short replies, stops feeling like something she can just fix later. The truth is, we get used to the people who love us. They become furniture, background noise, a call we will return tomorrow. And by the time we understand what we had, sometimes it is already too late to say it out loud. So what does Aya do when tomorrow might not come the way she planned?
