Silver Spoon
Yuugo Hachiken studied hard and did everything right, and it still was not enough for his parents. So he picks a boarding school out in the Hokkaido countryside, figuring agriculture will be an easy ride compared to the pressure at home. He lasts about a day before realizing he has no idea what he signed up for. His classmates have mucked stalls and slaughtered chickens since they could walk. They know livestock physiology the way he knows algebra. Meanwhile he gags at the smell, wakes at five for chores that leave his arms shaking, and wears boots caked in things he would rather not name. Nobody here is impressed by a city kid with good grades. He wants to find something he actually cares about, a life that belongs to him and not to anyone else's plan. But the farm does not hand out answers for free, and every day knocks him down a little harder. Will he ever figure out what he is even doing out here?
