Manta Oyamada just wants to get home, so he cuts through the cemetery at night. Bad call. A kid his age is sitting on a gravestone, chatting away, and invites him to look at the stars with "them." Them turns out to be ghosts. Manta runs. The kid is You Asakura, a shaman in training, and he can do more than talk to the dead. When a pack of thugs corners Manta, You calls up Amidamaru, the spirit of a samurai who has been dead six hundred years, and the two of them fight as one. Manta sticks around because he can actually see what everyone else cannot. Turns out You is training for something enormous: the Shaman Fight, a tournament held once every five hundred years, where the winner becomes Shaman King and gets to reshape the world however they want. So a teenager and a six hundred year old swordsman are going up against shamans from everywhere. Can they really take the whole thing?
