Shinjuro Tateoka never asked to run a dojo. He was just the son of one, a guy who swept floors and practiced forms while his father Tessyusai handled everything else. Then the shogunate sends Tessyusai off on a mission, and the whole place lands in Shinjuro's lap. Most of the paying students walk out. In their place, a handful of young girls move in, and somehow the swordsmanship school gets quieter, almost peaceful. Then the city starts getting robbed. Not little snatch-and-grab jobs either. The shogunate orders every prominent dojo to put men on the streets at night, and Shinjuro suddenly has real work on his hands. The thieves he runs into are sharp, organized, and clearly after something bigger than a few chests of gold. Meanwhile, he is trying to keep his footing at home with all these women under his roof and a government breathing down his neck. Patrol duty, a house full of girls, and a crew of burglars playing a deeper game. Shinjuro wanted a simple life, so who exactly is he supposed to be loyal to when the shogunate's orders and his own household pull in different directions?
