Marco Pagot was a decorated ace in the Great War, a man with a face the ladies liked. Then his whole squadron went down, Mussolini took over Italy, and Marco turned into a pig. Now he flies a crimson biplane over the Adriatic as Porco Rosso, hunting sky pirates for bounty money and spending his quiet hours on a lonely island. When he needs company, he visits Gina, who sings at the Hotel Adriano and has loved him for years. Then a hotshot American pilot named Donald Curtis shoots him out of the sky. Donald wastes no time crowing that the flying pig is finished. Porco can't face Gina with that shame hanging over him, so he drags his wrecked plane to the Piccolo workshop, takes on a crushing debt, and asks for a rebuild. The chief engineer turns out to be Fio, the old mechanic's granddaughter, seventeen years old and desperate to prove what she can do. Fio reworks the fighter until it hums, and Porco gears up for a public duel with Donald to win back his name. But a girl that young riding along with a cursed pig, and Donald's loud promises of glory, and Gina still waiting at her hotel: who exactly is Porco fighting for?
