A wedding day turns into a slaughter. The Ades Federation's battleships come out of the clouds over Turan and start leveling the capital, and two princesses watch their kingdom burn from the palace balcony. Then a tiny vanship called the Vespa drops out of the smoke, and a girl named Fam yells up at them to grab on if they want to live. The choice is simple: stay and die, or fly with sky pirates. Now the princesses are fugitives on a ship captained by a kid, and Fam has one very dumb, very big idea. She wants to steal an enemy flagship right out of the middle of the Ades fleet. Giselle, her navigator, is the only one keeping the Vespa in the air while shells burst around them, and every noble who climbs aboard seems to have a different plan for how this war should end. What exactly is Luscinia after, and why does everyone keep whispering about something called Exile?
