Chen Mo is a mechanic on a colony ship headed for a young planet, the place where the Black Meteor supposedly came from. Cryosleep. A blink. When he wakes up, a hundred and fifty years have passed, and the planet below is nothing but scorched desert crawling with monsters. Worse, the entire crew has turned into them. He fixes up four robot assistants, each with a personality that will not shut up, and starts hoarding supplies for one goal: get back to Earth. Then a girl in an escape pod drops out of the sky, right before his launch window. His carefully built plan is dust. She brings nothing but trouble, and he cannot just leave her out there among the monsters. So what does a guy do when the one thing he wanted is suddenly the hardest thing to reach?
