A giant cube drops out of the sky over Haneda and swallows a plane mid takeoff, all 252 people on board. No fire, no wreckage. Koujirou Shindou, a government negotiator with a cool head and a sharp tongue, walks off that plane unharmed and finds a young man waiting inside the cube, polite and calm, looking like he belongs in a suit. He calls himself Yaha-kui zaShunina, and he is not from here. Not from anywhere near here, really. Then every phone in Japan buzzes at once. His message is short: he will be intervening in the country's internal affairs from now on. The government scrambles to put a spokesperson on stage, Saraka Tsukai, while Shindou gets handed the job of talking to a being from a higher dimension that can move information, matter and who knows what else through a cube called Kado. zaShunina says he only wants to advance humanity. Japan first. He says it like he is offering a gift. He never once raises his voice. Shindou has to figure out what the man actually wants before anyone else does, and every meeting feels less like a negotiation and more like standing on the edge of something with no bottom. Is zaShunina a friend, a threat, or something with no word for it yet?
