In 2015, Dr. Yamanoue builds a robot boy on a lonely artificial island and plans to raise him as his own son. There is just one problem: the kid's electric brain is faulty, and fixing it means asking the one man Yamanoue can barely stand, his old friend and lifelong rival Dr. Kawashimo. Kawashimo is a pacifist who loves machines. Yamanoue sees the boy as a weapon. He arrives with his young daughter Miri, and soon Jet Mars opens his eyes for the first time. Everything is new to him. He does not know what is good or bad. The next day he lifts Kawashimo and Miri onto the roof of a building, sees something wet shining in the girl's eyes, and feels a strange pull inside his chest. Yamanoue tells him it is a tear, something weak girls cry and strong men never do. Then another robot, Fainton, short-circuits and goes berserk, tearing a hole in the facility while seawater comes pouring through. Mars just stands there, frozen. Miri does not. She seals the gap herself, and Mars follows her lead, hauling iron sheets until both doctors are pulled from the flooding water. Only later does he learn what Miri really is. Can a machine that was built to fight ever learn to cry?
