In Shikizakura, cherry blossoms bloom while the maples burn red, and the boundary between our world and the spirit one wears thin. A high school kid named Kakeru Miwa stumbles into all of this by pure accident. Next thing he knows, he is the odd man out on a squad that fights in powered armor called Yoroi, ancient tricks fused with cutting edge tech. Here is the twist: the enemy, the Oni, do not just attack. They crawl inside people and refuse to let go, clinging to this world with everything they have got. Bullets and blades will not cut it. Only the armor can pull a person back, and only a shrine maiden named Ouka Myoujin can carry out the ritual meant to save everyone. She dances under the falling petals and the autumn leaves while the fighting rages around her. Kakeru could have walked away. Instead he signs up to be the one standing between Ouka and the things that want her, and him, and everyone else. Past and future, thoughts and wishes, all of it colliding at once. But what happens when the boy who was never supposed to be there becomes the only one who can keep the ritual alive?
