Giant robots just showed up one day. No warning, no demands, no explanation. They leveled cities across the globe, and nobody could slow them down. Now the machines are turning toward Japan. Daisaku Kusama spends his days hauling tanks at a diving shop, until a girl who goes by V walks in and leads him to ancient ruins on Minami Yonaguni Island in Okinawa. There he signs a contract with Giant Robo 1, a monster of metal built long before anyone alive remembers. He joins UNISOM, the group fighting back, and they hand him the commander's seat. His enemy is GRO. Their robots keep coming, and every battle costs him something: friends, safety, ordinary life. The war drags on, and the line between protecting people and wielding something terrible gets thinner all the time. So when a giant robot can end a city in minutes, who decides how it gets used? And what happens when the boy holding the contract starts asking that too?
