Motoko Kusanagi traded one chain of command for another. No more running her own show with the 501 Organization. Now Aramaki gives the orders, and she has to swallow every one of them. Then someone cracks the Logicomas wide open, and the calm shatters. Batou starts making calls, pulling in Ishikawa, an ex-army intelligence officer, and Borma, who used to blow things up for the air artillery. Kusanagi wants her own people: Saito, a sniper with scary aim, and Paz, a cop who works from the inside. Two teams. One case. A man is walking around with memories of a refugee transport operation that never happened, and nobody can agree on what that means. Section 9 is still being built while it hunts, and the rivalries inside it might be worse than whatever is waiting outside. Whose version of the truth gets to survive once the fake memories start pointing at real people?
