A sealed invitation with no sender shows up, and Mo Fan and Ling Ling walk straight into a case nobody has managed to close for years. The Hunter King wants them on it. That alone should have been the warning. What starts as a few odd leads turns into a web of demons, trails that go cold, and fights they barely walk away from. Then the name behind it all surfaces: the Red Beast. He does not fight his own battles. He burrows into other demons, Yi Qiu and Lu Kun among them, wearing them like armor and getting stronger with every body he takes. Piece by piece, he inches toward something much bigger than any case file. Mo Fan, Ling Ling and Wang Yue Qian Xun corner him at last in a fight that nearly finishes all three of them. They win. Or they think they do. Then the truth lands: the thing they killed was only a clone. The real Red Beast is still out there, and Mo Fan has been tangled in his plan for far longer than he ever knew. How much of what he did was ever his own choice?
