Lunia was the eldest daughter of Count Persephone, which in practice meant unpaid servant. Her family shoved her aside for years, so when a letter named her the chosen bride of Duke Hades Khronoa, she packed without a second thought. Yes, the Khronoa are called the Lords of Death, the emperor's watchdogs. She did not care. Any house beat her father's. Then the wedding night came, and Hades said he would never touch her. Never love her either. Fine. Except the men of his line go mad or die before thirty unless they have a child with the bride God picked for them, and she is that bride. So the priests corner her, the empire's future on their lips, and Lunia does the one thing she cannot take back: she drugs her husband's wine, lies with him, and runs before morning. Seven years pass in a neighboring country, two boys, Uranus and Helios, hidden away. She has never told a soul that on the night they were conceived she saw them grown, fighting under the Khronoa crest, brothers on opposite sides. Then Hades walks back into her life and asks why she saved him, and why she left. The curse is broken. He got what he came for. So what does he still want from her?
