Agerna sits on the one mineral that makes space travel possible, and somebody keeps blowing up the mines. Governments start shouting at each other across the table, so the World Welfare and Works Association does what it always does: sends Kei and Yuri. Two agents. Bright hair, short tempers, a habit of leaving craters where buildings used to be. The attacks are not sabotage by a rival nation. A scientist is behind them, and his plan is worse than politics: wake a sleeping alien race and push it all the way to its final evolutionary form, whatever that looks like when it opens its eyes. Meanwhile a thief wanders the same planet chasing a bottle of wine from the Second World War, because of course he does. Nobody on Agerna is safe. Not the miners, not the officials, and definitely not anyone standing near the Lovely Angels when things go loud. Can two women with a talent for demolition stop a man who thinks he is finishing evolution itself?
