A year ago a UFO cracked open off the coast of Kasai and spilled out a hundred and fifty aliens. The government shrugged, called them DearS, handed them citizenship papers, and now they go to school and work convenience stores like everyone else. Takeya Ikuhara wants no part of it. Fine, the whole planet is suddenly full of gorgeous extraterrestrials, he does not care, he just wants to get through high school in peace. Then a truck hauling a sealed capsule loses its cargo down a riverbank on a foggy morning. Takeya finds the girl inside the bushes and yanks her out of traffic a heartbeat before a truck flattens her. Her name is Ren. She takes one look at him and declares him her Master, ready to be his slave forever, and his normal life is over. Here is the catch: DearS are a species of servants, born to please, and Takeya has no idea. He thinks she might be an evil alien quietly reprogramming his brain. He is also wrong about that. Ren is broken, defective, and wanted by someone. Between lessons on how to eat with chopsticks and frantic attempts to keep her hidden, something called a Darr starts growing between them. But if the DearS authorities find their missing defective girl, what happens to the Master she picked for herself?
