Candy grows up at Pony's Home with her best friend Annie and a raccoon named Kurin who follows her almost everywhere. One day on the hill behind the orphanage she runs into a boy. A kind boy, handsome, gone too soon, and she never even learns his name. She just calls him the Prince of the Hill and keeps him in her memory. Then a rich family takes her in. Not as a daughter, as a servant. Neil and Eliza, the lady and lord of the house, make her life miserable from morning to night. But in the rose garden she suddenly comes face to face with a boy who looks exactly like her prince from the hill. His name is Anthony. Her first love. Candy holds on. Mr. Albert, an odd and kind man, always seems to appear when things get really bad, and somehow he helps her through.
