Battery

Takumi Harada is twelve, and he throws like nobody else in the prefecture. Then his parents move the family to Nitta, a town so small it barely shows up on a map, and the local baseball club is a joke. Most kids would quit. Takumi almost does, because what is the point of a genius arm with no catcher who can hold onto the ball? Then Gou Nagakura shows up. He has watched Takumi pitch, he wants that spot behind the plate, and he refuses to be brushed off as just another loudmouth. The two of them start working toward something that might look like a real battery, if they can stand each other long enough. That last part is the problem. Takumi talks to his new teammates like they are wasting his time, and they notice. His grandfather keeps nudging him toward something he has forgotten: that baseball is supposed to be fun. So can a kid who thinks he is above everyone else learn to trust the one person willing to catch him?
