A false ad case. That is all Zen Seizaki thinks he is handling when he and his assistant start poking around a pharmaceutical company and the shaky research behind its new drug. Then, in a file that once belonged to an anesthesiologist named Shin Inaba, he finds something that does not belong in any paperwork: blood, strands of hair, bits of skin pressed into the page, and the letter F scrawled over and over across the sheet. A quiet investigation just turned into something else entirely. The deeper Zen digs, the less the case looks like a case. It reaches into the coming mayoral election, into the founding of the Shiniki district itself, and into people far closer to him than he would like. Corruption, lies, a woman whose name keeps surfacing at the center of it all. His sense of justice, once a solid thing, starts to bend under the weight. So who wrote that letter, and why does every road in this investigation lead back to the same place?
